Tetrasodium Edetate

Tetrasodium Edetate is the fully neutralized sodium salt of EDTA, used in cosmetics primarily as a chelating agent. It binds trace metal ions from water and raw materials to improve formula stability, reduce discoloration, and help protect preservatives and antioxidants from metal-catalyzed degradation. It is not an exfoliant or treatment active; its main role is formulation support. In higher-concentration solutions it is alkaline and can be irritating, but at typical cosmetic use levels it is generally considered low-risk and broadly compatible with rinse-off and leave-on products.
