Symphytum Officinale Leaf Extract
Botanical extract from comfrey leaves (Symphytum officinale) used in skincare for soothing, conditioning, and traditional wound-care style claims. Leaf and root extracts contain allantoin, rosmarinic acid, tannins, and other plant constituents; however, comfrey is also associated with pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs), which are the main toxicological concern.

Risks & Warnings
Primary concern is contamination or intrinsic presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which have been associated with hepatotoxicity and other toxicity concerns. Avoid use on broken, irritated, or damaged skin and avoid prolonged or high-level exposure. Not appropriate for pregnancy/breastfeeding cautionary formulations due to limited safety certainty and toxicology concerns.
