Sodium Methyltaurate is the sodium salt of N-methyltaurine, a small sulfonate-based ingredient used in cosmetics primarily as a mild anionic surfactant, foam booster, and formulation aid in cleansing products. It is water-soluble and typically appears in rinse-off products where gentle cleansing and foam quality are desired. Compared with harsher sulfates, taurate-based surfactants are generally considered milder and better tolerated when properly formulated.

Main risks are mild skin or eye irritation, especially at higher concentrations or in poorly balanced formulations.
