Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria)
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria)
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) is the cosmetic INCI for German chamomile-derived botanical ingredients, most commonly flower extract. It is used primarily for soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant support in skincare and haircare. Depending on the extraction method, it can contain flavonoids and sesquiterpenes such as apigenin, chamazulene, and bisabolol-related constituents. Because it is a botanical extract rather than a single purified molecule, composition, molecular weight, and optimal pH are not fixed and vary by supplier and extraction solvent.

Risks & Warnings
Main concern is contact allergy/sensitization, especially in people allergic to Asteraceae/Compositae plants (for example ragweed, chrysanthemum, calendula). Rare cases of eye and skin irritation have been reported with some chamomile extracts or concentrated preparations. Use caution on highly reactive or allergy-prone skin, and discontinue if redness, itching, or rash develops.
